I’ve been getting a few pulses on the site regarding General McMaster and his fitness for the National Security Advisor position. I first met the General in Ramadi when I was there in 2006—he was a colonel then and a very impressive guy. He was fresh from his success in Tal ‘Afar and his tactics were the prototype for the success we were to enjoy in al-Anbar Province. He knows what he’s doing and more importantly, he knows the limits of special operations. See the article below by Rich Sisk, a very capable military journalist. Of special note are McMaster’s Four Fallacies. And I think we all owe Bob Harward a debt of gratitude. His stepping back from the job may just predispose McMaster to succeed in properly staffing the NSA so he can do the job.
