Army Special Forces, traditionally deployed as a Special Forces Detachment, Alpha, or A-Team, are the Special Operations specialists in foreign internal defense. Foreign internal defense, or FID, often has an A-Team embedded with the security forces of a village or tribal entity, helping them with local security measures. They may also assist with governance, civil affair projects, medical issues, and infrastructure improvement–just about anything to make themselves useful and to bond with the local villagers. I highly recommend this text. It is reprinted With Permission: Irregular Warfare and the Two Minds of the Venture Capital Green Beret. Small Wars Journal, June 2012.
The role of the entrepreneur may just be a value-added tool for cementing relationships and winning the Hearts and Minds of the locals.
